Vascular Genetics, Inc.

Vascular Genetics, Inc. (“VGI”) is a privately held gene therapy company that is one of the leaders in the field of angiogenesis.  VGI began as a consortium of efforts by Human Genome Sciences, Inc. (Rockville), Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center (Boston) and Cato Holding Company (Research Triangle) to clinically develop the breakthrough discoveries of Jeffrey Isner, MD.  The company utilizes a naked DNA plasmid of the gene VEGF-2 to stimulate the growth of collateral vasculature in the heart and to treat critical limb ischemia in the legs. VGI is the exclusive licensee of the VEGF-2 patent held by Human Genome Sciences.  The Company’s two main development programs, heart disease and peripheral vascular disease, each represent market opportunities in excess of $1 billion.  Century Capital advised the company during the following transactions:

  • Century Capital was introduced to VGI as the Company was preparing to raise its first round of outside funding. Century Capital assisted the Company in securing a three-tranche financing of $11 million.

  • Subsequent to closing on the financing, Century Capital assisted the Company in securing a license from a publicly traded biotechnology company for technology used by VGI in delivering VEGF-2.
