Cogent Neuroscience, Inc. (“Cogent”) is a privately-held biopharmaceutical company developing drugs for diseases and disorders of the Central Nervous System. The Company utilizes a technical platform first developed at Duke University by two of the Company’s founders. The Company combines the power of genomics with proprietary functional screening technologies to discover pathways to the next generation of treatments for the major diseases and disorders of the brain. The platform employs a biolistic transfection method into living slices of brain tissue to determine gene function in neuronal tissue. The Company has successfully transfected animal tissue and human tissue, identifying several dozen genes as neuroprotective. Using this unique screening technology, Cogent is mapping the regulatory structure of the brain and utilizing the resulting information to develop products to treat major neuronal diseases. Cogent contacted Century Capital before the second round of investment to assist the Company in further refining its business plan and strategic plan as well as to initiate and execute development and licensing agreements with pharmaceutical companies.
